New Medicare cards
Be on the lookout for your new Medicare card. You won’t need to do anything so long as your address is up to date. If you need to change it, visit your account: www.mysocialsecurity.gov.
Your card will have a new number instead of your Social Security number; once you get your new card, destroy the old one. Carry your new one with you and remember Medicare will never call you uninvited and ask for private information to send your new card. Beware of scam artists!
What are you doing for seniors?
With Election Day coming up on Nov. 6, the Georgia Council on Aging and its advocacy organization, CO-AGE, encourage voters to ask candidates about issues important to older adults. Some questions:
* With 7,000 seniors on a waiting list for non-Medicaid home care services, will you support a $10 million request to help seniors remain in their homes and communities?
* The state’s Aging and Disability Resource Centers lost federal funding last year, will you vote for $4 million for the 12 regional centers around the state that serve all 159 counties?
* Too many seniors have limited access to transportation, even for trips to the doctor. Will you help secure more transportation services for seniors?
* Will you increase the penalties for Personal Care Homes that don’t comply with existing regulations?
For a list of more issues the Council on Aging and CO-AGE are advocating in the next legislative session, visit www.gcoa.org/issues.
