Men and effects of untreated mental illness

Men are more likely to suffer from the stigma that emotional struggles are a sign of weakness or something that should be dealt with in private.

Culturally, men are expected to be strong, infallible and stoic but over 6 million men struggle with depression and more than 3 million live with anxiety.

One out of every five men will develop alcohol dependency during his life, and 80 percent of the 30,000 Americans who commit suicide each year are men.

Some advice: Acknowledge that it’s okay to not be okay. Talk about it. Define and focus on your purpose. Create a social network; connect with others.
